Interested in exploring the very heart of Istrian peninsula in just 1 day? We might have the right itinerary for you then!
Only thirty kilometers away from famous tourist centers, the peace and serenity of this place goes year round, winter and summer. Pazin – a town rich with history and traditions. On the plateau of surrounding hills the old part of the town is situated on a cliff.
Below the cliffs is the abyss of the Pazinčica river, a geological phenomenon known as the Pazinska jama. Though at first sight you probably don’t fall in love, this place is a hidden gem of adrenaline activities, good local taverns and wineries.
1. Breakfast at La Marenda, coffee at Bunker
Start your tour with a good breakfast!
La Marenda is a small French bakery (the owner actually lived in France). It is the smallest and cutest bakery in Pazin. From pancakes with maple syrup or Nutella, to bagels, sandwiches and chicken salads – pick your favorite and combine it with really good coffee or a juice.
After having your favorite breakfast combination, head downtown to Bunker, it’s literally 20 steps from La Marenda.
Bunker is a local coffee place where in the early morning, you can enjoy coffee in a jazzy atmosphere (ask for the outdoor terrace if the weather is nice and sunny), and in the evening it turns into a micro scene of alternative music, stand up shows and other events. No rush, no stress – is the kind of service you’ll get there.
2. Explore the Church of Saint Nicholas or the Ethnographic Museum of Istria
After finishing your coffee in a slow manner, exiting Bunker you have a straight view at the belfry and church of Saint Nicholas in Pazin. The church was originally built in 1266, and finished in the 15th and 18th centuries. Particularly interesting is the networked Gothic vault of presbytery with a cycle of frescoes painted around 1460. These frescoes belong to the very top of the late-20th century visual arts in Istria. Note: Arrange your visit at least two days in advance at email@example.com.
If you don’t fancy a visit to the church, head more downtown to Pazin castle, and Pazinska jama. Pazin’s castle is the largest and best preserved medieval fortification in Istria. First mentioned in written documents in 983, it is rich with history. Today, the castle is home to Ethnographic Museum of Istria and the Museum of the Town of Pazin. Until recently, ethnography and ethnography were mostly interested in cultural forms of everyday life in the village in the past. The permanent exhibition in the Ethnographic Museum of Istria fully reflects such an approach, so we highly recommend it!
